# Archive and restore a card

> Take a card out of use without deleting it, and bring it back later.

Archiving takes a card out of use while keeping it and its setup intact. An archived card cannot be selected in segments or destinations, and no data updates are processed for it.

## Archive a card

Open the card, open the menu in the upper right corner and pick **Archive card**. Confirm with **Yes, archive card**.

The card moves to **Archiving** while the work runs, then to **Archived**.

<Warning>
  A card that is in use cannot be archived — remove it from those segments and destinations first.

<Info>Archiving is not possible while the card is **Updating**.</Info>

## Find archived cards

Archived cards are hidden from the **Cards** list by default. Set the **Status** filter to **Archived** to list them — see [Find cards](/guides/studio/cards/find-cards).

## What an archived card page allows

<img src="https://mintcdn.com/occtoo/NueWsyO-lsrXKror/images/guides/studio/cards/archived-card-restore-focus.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=NueWsyO-lsrXKror&q=85&s=927bdd42dc48541bca2e6073e59beae8" alt="An archived card page" width="1600" height="700" data-path="images/guides/studio/cards/archived-card-restore-focus.png" />

The page keeps its widgets, but the editing controls are gone: **Card details** cannot be edited, and the **Properties** widget has no search, filter, **Edit order and sections** or **Add Property**. The properties themselves are still listed, so the card remains readable as documentation.

The menu still offers **Copy card** and **Delete card**.

## Restore a card

Press **Restore card** in the top right of an archived card page. The card returns to use and can be selected again in segments and destinations.
