# Copy a card

> Start a new card from an existing one, keeping its sources and property setup.

Copying a card is the quickest way to build a variation of a card that already works — the same sources and property setup, under a new name.

Open the card, open the menu in the upper right corner and pick **Copy card**.

<Info>
  **Copy card** is available on **Active**, **Draft** and **Archived** cards. It is disabled while the card is **Updating** or **Archiving**.
</Info>

Studio opens the [card creation flow](/guides/studio/cards/create-a-card), prefilled from the original:

* **Choose data source** holds the original's data sources.
* **Allow properties enrichment** carries over.
* The property selection step comes with the original's properties already ticked.
* **Name your card** and **Add a description** are empty.

Give the copy a name and walk the remaining steps as usual, adjusting properties, display sections and display options along the way. Press **Save card** on the last step.

<Info>
  The copy is created as a **Draft**, so it has no effect on any destination until you activate it. The original card is untouched.
</Info>

<Warning>
  The name has to be unique. Cancelling the flow returns you to the card you copied from and keeps nothing.
</Warning>
